DEEP PERSPECTIVES
ON AI
Wednesday 2 April 2025 - Storyteller Bar Te Awamutu
Looking at AI from different angles
In our second meetup we'll be helping you in your AI journey by bringing together three people with who will each bring quite different perspectives on AI.
Albert Bifet - The Professor
What's coming next? What should we know about AI?
Albert Bifet is a Professor of Artificial Intelligence and the Director of the Te Ipu o te Mahara AI Institute at University of Waikato, and Professor of Big Data at Data, Intelligence and Graphs (DIG) LTCI, Télécom Paris, IP Paris. He is co-chair of the NZ AI Researchers Association.
Albert is leading the TAIAO Environmental Data Science project, and he is co-leading the open source project MOA Massive On-line Analysis. He is the co-author of a book on Machine Learning from Data Streams published at MIT Press. He is one of the winners of the best paper award at the ACM Conference on Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency (ACM FAccT) 2023, and he was the general co-chair of the European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (ECML-PKDD) 2024.

Jeremy Suisted - The Coach
Learnings from the coalface of helping businesses adopt AI
Jeremy co-runs Mosaic Partners, an organisation dedicated to educating every-day Kiwis in how to save time with AI. He is also a Teaching Fellow at the University of Waikato, where he specialises in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Through his work at Mosaic Partners Jeremy gets to see first hand the challenges and opportunities for business adopting AI into their businesses. Jeremy will share insights the Mosaic team are seeing amongst non-techies having their eyes opened to AI potential. These insights will no doubt stimulate ideas for where tech companies can step in with customised solutions.

Jeremy Johnson - The Product Guy
Learnings from building AI into your software
Jeremy Johnson is a co-founder of Rocketspark and chief product officer. Jeremy started his career as a freelance designer and is always thinking "is there a better way to do this?".
At Rocketspark Jeremy has led the integration of AI into the Rocketspark platform to make it ever easier for graphic designers, marketers and small business owners to feel in control of their website and make their site hum. Rocketspark began their first AI project back in 2018 and have experienced first hand the rapid rate of change and capability that AI offers and the Rocketspark AI website builder can build a website in minutes.
